Solar Car Challenge

What is the Solar Car Challenge?

The Solar Car Challenge is a solar car race that takes place at UC Merced. This event introduces solar energy and engineering design applications to participating students. Teachers who attend one of our Solar Car Trainings are eligible to sign up for student teams.  Students will have the opportunity to engage in creativity and work in teams to build their solar cars prior to the day of the race. On the day of the race, students who are part of a registered team, come to UC Merced and race against students from other teams.

Bobcat Summer STEM Academy

What is BSA?

Bobcat Summer STEM Academy is a series of workshops for K-12 students and teachers lead by UC Merced staff, faculty, undergraduates, and more! Students get to register for and participate in workshops ranging from math, forensic science, engineering, biology, and even coding! Teachers can meet with fellow instructors and learn about ways to bring more hands-on science and math instruction into their classrooms. The past two summers, Summer 2020 and Summer 2021, BSA has been held virtually with an amazing turnout! We hope to return to in-person instruction next Summer.
