Pre-Service Teacher Training Program

Pre-Service Teacher Training Program

Each academic year, approximately 30 UC Merced undergraduates participate in the CalTeach Learning Lab’s pre-service training program, gaining mentorship, developing STEM lessons, and building hands-on teaching experience. Fellows complete 460 hours annually, while interns complete 60–200 hours, with each participant reaching an estimated 2,000–4,000 K–12 students per year.

Student Opportunities

UC Merced Students can enter into the pre-service teacher training program by interning in the CalTeach Learning Lab. The following internships are available throughout the academic year.

Learning Lab Internship: Students are hired for the fall or spring semester to create and teach hands-on STEM curriculum for K-12 students, on campus, in the CalTeach Learning Lab. Students interested in the internship should follow the Learning Lab on Instagram @Calteachlearninglab. Applications will be posted online in early August and late December of each year.

CollegeCorps Fellowship: The CalTeach Learning Lab is a host site for CollgeCorps Fellows and welcomes a new cohort at the beginning of each academic year. You can apply for the CollgeCorps Fellowship in spring. Information can be found here.

Bobcat Summer STEM Academy: Interested students can apply to be interns in our Bobcat Summer STEM Academies. Academies run June - July, and interns must be available Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm. Applications open in late spring.
